Formally known as the Illinois Avenue group, Mendota's residents came together to revitalize this once vibrant downtown. Determined to bring life back to the downtown and foster new pride in the community, Reimagine Mendota started to host events in the historic downtown area. Reimagine Mendota also took on beautification projects such as adding flower boxes, painting light posts, and adding lights to Illinois Avenue. Unfortunately, in late 2022 downtown Mendota faced two separate fires, leaving two main streets with empty spaces. The beauty that had been restored to Illinois Avenue was in ashes.
Still, the residents remained committed to continuing their efforts to make Mendota a great place to work, live, and play.

Today, Reimagine Mendota is once again creating a plan and involving everyone to determine what should be developed on these blank slates and how we can once again make this place a truly vibrant downtown. All residents are welcomed to help imagine, plan, and volunteer.
